AI Doesn't Take the Responsibility
AI lets me write an order of magnitude more code than by hand. When it breaks at two in the morning, the model isn't the one responsible. More output means more ownership, not less.
In an AI world, ownership is the thing developers need to understand.
I get it. I can create an order of magnitude more code with AI than I could by hand.
But here is the deal. When it all goes wrong at two in the morning, who is responsible? The model that wrote it, or me?
Nobody said this was going to be easy. Increasing your output means an increase in responsibility.
I’m excited about the future. As software engineers we can now do more than we could two years ago. But that doesn’t excuse us from our responsibility to the code, the product, or the company.
